Elavil Uses
Amitriptyline is approved most commonly for the treatment of depression
(clinical/endogenous depression, also involutional melancholia 'depression
of late life', which is no longer seen as a disease in its own right).
Adult typical dosages are 25 to 150 mg daily, with half this initially
for elderly or adolescents.
Elavil Side Effects
Common side effects of using amitriptyline are dry mouth, extreme

Symptoms of overdose may include:
irregular heartbeat
seizures
coma
confusion
problems concentrating

rigid muscles
vomiting
fever
cold body temperature

hazardous activities. Elavil may cause drowsiness or dizziness.
If you experience drowsiness or dizziness, avoid these activities.
Dizziness is likely to occur when you rise from a sitting or lying
position. Rise slowly to prevent dizziness and a possible fall.
Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness
while you are taking Elavil. Do not stop taking Elavil suddenly.
This could cause symptoms such as nausea, headache, and malaise.
